Figure 1
Households with no vehicle, Texas counties

Share with no vehicle by Texas county · all 254 counties · hover or tap a county for every figure on this page
In a typical Texas county, 4.9 percent of households have no vehicle available, the midpoint among all 254 counties. That county share is not a state figure. When every Texas household is counted once, 5.3 percent have no car, 571,578 households, because the large metros sit a little above the middle county. Dimmit County is highest at 14.2 percent, then Brooks at 14.0. Nine counties reach 10 percent or more, while 41 sit below 3 percent, and five small counties publish none.
Share with no vehicle · all 254 · ranked high to low
The complete ranking, all 254 counties, nothing left out. Dimmit County leads at 14.2 percent, then Brooks at 14.0 and Loving at 13.9, a mix of South Texas and thinly peopled counties. Nine counties reach 10 percent or more. The twenty-fifth county, Madison, is 7.9 percent, and the fiftieth, Moore, is 6.7 percent. The middle county sits at 4.9 percent. Forty-one counties fall below 3 percent, and five publish none. A county share is not a state figure.
Households with no vehicle · all 254 · ranked high to low
Every county count of households with no vehicle available. Harris holds 118,045, more than one in five of the statewide 571,578, then Dallas at 65,844 and Bexar at 46,767. The five largest counties hold 52 percent of those households. The middle county has about 339. Five counties publish zero. The count ranking is a different picture from the share ranking: the highest shares are small counties, while the largest numbers sit in the metros.
Households against share with no vehicle · one point per row, 254 of 254 plotted
Each point is one Texas county. Share and household count barely move together: the correlation is 0.04, so size explains almost none of the pattern. Harris (6.8 percent, 1.73 million households) and Dallas (6.8 percent) sit near the statewide 5.3 percent with the largest counts. The highest shares are small counties, from Dimmit at 14.2 percent to Loving at 13.9 percent among 36 households. Geography and local conditions, not size, are what the ranking is showing.
254 rows · 4 columns · sorted by share with no vehicle, high to low
The full dataset: all 254 counties with the share of households that have no vehicle, the count of those households, and total households, sorted by share and re-sortable on any column. Use the filter box to jump straight to a county by name. The Census published a figure for every Texas county, so no cells are suppressed. Five counties report zero households with no vehicle. A county share is not a state figure; averaging the 254 shares would weight Loving County the same as Harris.
